Mokotowska Street is located in the South Śródmieście district. Initially, this route connected the city with the village of Mokotowo. Hence the name of the street, which was given to it in the 18th century. Over the years, this street has gradually evolved to create its characteristic unique atmosphere. At the end of the 19th century, the bourgeoisie settled more and more willingly and in large numbers, building spacious houses for themselves.
While strolling down Mokotowska Street, you can come across real pearls of architecture from that period. These are richly decorated tenement houses from the beginning of the 20th century, representing the Art Nouveau and eclectic style. Most of them were destroyed during the Second World War. After 1945, they were rebuilt and restored – some of them actually managed to restore their former glory. Interestingly, there were also tenement houses in Mokotowska that managed to survive the war almost intact.
