The British School Warsaw is a private establishment. The international institution was founded in 1992 by Iwona Thomas in cooperation with Nord Anglia Education International, an organization of 56 schools in 27 countries around the world. Her teaching programme is based on the ‘British curriculum’, which is adapted to the needs of the international student community.
Students over 16 have the option of taking the IB Diploma Programme.
Nearly 1200 students from 64 countries attend The British School Warsaw. Classes are conducted in English (with special help for children for whom this is not the primary language).
BSW operates in two places in Warsaw – in Old Mokotów, where the nursery is located – Early Years Center, and in Sadyba on Limanowski Street, in a modern complex where the main school campus is located.
Students are admitted to the school from the age of 7 to 18. Up to the age of 16, children implement the English National Curriculum, acquiring further key skills, designated for specific age groups. In key stage 4 (classes 10-11), students implement a two-year program preparing them for the I / GCSE (International / General Certificate of Secondary Education) exam. After the age of 16 – in classes 12-13 – students continue their education in accordance with the IB Diploma Program, currently recognized as the best preparation program for university studies and international careers.
The play-based curriculum emphasizes the acquisition of basic knowledge, but borrows many proven techniques from schools with a progressive approach. The purpose of teaching is to instill in students respect for and benefits of learning, including mental and personal development. It is important to acquire theoretical and academic knowledge, but the development of intellect is vital.
