Description
The American School of Warsaw is one of the best and most modern international schools in Warsaw. It follows the American curriculum. The school is managed by a trustee board composed of 12 persons, with the chairman and vice-chairman appointed by the US ambassador.
The school is an authorized IB World School and holds the accreditation of the Council of International Schools CIS as well as the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). It is also a member of CEESA and SCIS organizations.
Since 2001, the institution is located in Bielawa – between Wilanów and Konstancin-Jeziorna, having a modern educational complex at its disposal and offering ideal conditions for education, development of artistic interests and sports.
The 25-acre campus facilities include:
- its own 365-seat theater,
- indoor swimming pool,
- three gyms,
- fitness center,
- four soccer fields,
- state-of-the-art classrooms,
- library,
- cafeteria with natural light.
The building of the American School of Warsaw is the eco-friendliest school in Poland as the complex was built in compliance with the LEED certification rules.
Education system
The American School of Warsaw offers its students (aged from 3 to 19) three curricula at the respective education levels: PYP for elementary school, MYP for middle school and international baccalaureate, IB Diploma for high school.
- elementary (including kindergarten) – Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten (age 3–6), Elementary School, Grade 1-5 (age 6–11)
- middle – Middle School, Grade 6-8 (age 12–14)
- high – High School, Grade 9-12 (age 15–19)
The school graduates receive the American high school completion certificate and – having passed the baccalaureate examination – the IB (International Baccalaureate) diploma.
What does learning in the American system look like?
The purpose of learning is highly specialized approach to the academic achievements and curricula, based on fun and supporting teaching method. This project focuses more on the cognitive process itself rather than short-term effects. The school is more oriented at instilling the love for learning and curiosity in the world in the students for their entire lives.
The school curriculum also balances education with sport activities, ensuring a friendly and safe environment for all students and their families.
ECO school
The building features ecological and energy-saving solutions, including the high-quality carbon dioxide monitoring system as well as illumination control and optimization system. We have implemented rainwater use systems, reducing the consumption of drinking water. For the purposes of ecological water management, the retention tanks harvesting rainwater have been built. The building is equipped with wind turbines for energy production, solar collectors and a solar installation for usable utility heating. The school is heated with wood waste and has erected a biomass boiler room. The finished materials are characterized with low emission of substances harmful for the environment.
