Description
Willy-Brandt-Schule (WBS) is an international school with German as a lecture language, which acts as a center for Polish-German dialogue, hence its name: Polish-German School of Meetings and Dialogue named after Willy Brandt in Warsaw.
The school was founded as the “German School in Warsaw” at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1978. The institution operates:
- primary school,
- junior high school,
- high school.
Students implement the Polish and German curriculum. Graduation from WBS allows to study in Germany.
Funding
The Willy-Brandt-Schule school is financially and personally supported by the German government and is the only school in Poland that offers education according to the German teaching system.
For whom?
Both Polish and German pupils as well as international children who want to learn about the culture and languages of both nations are admitted to the WBS. For children who do not speak German, international and Polish classes (I-III) are created at the basic stage, and only in the upper classes they join children from German-speaking classes. The language of instruction is German, as well as Polish and English.
Specialized teaching staff and native speakers provide thorough education, according to German teaching plans, at the highest level. The “Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule” quality certificate is proof of the successful work of students and teachers.
The goal of educational process
The school’s goal is to educate according to German standards and to support Polish-German dialogue and intercultural understanding. Tolerance is also an important aspect in teaching, regardless of cultural differences.
The School of Meetings and Dialogue is designed to lead students to the secondary school-leaving examination and to acquire after graduation the right to study at universities in Poland, Germany and other countries. These exams are recognized in both countries. Candidates for studies are therefore subject to the same guidelines as residents of a given country. Additional language exams are not necessary.
Extra-curricular activities
The school is not made up only of languages. Great emphasis is placed on practical science teaching, musical and artistic development (e.g. WBS Music Academy), sports development (e.g. WBS Football Academy and athletic training), as well as scientific cooperation with the University of Warsaw.
In the vocational area, education is enriched with apprenticeships, advisory meetings on studies and professional development, trips to the Viadrina University in Frankfurt (Oder) and the Federal Labor Office in Berlin.
The school provides students with additional activities – sports, music, art, technical and many others.
